The 'Marvel of Paper and Ink'

Jim Bertine

PGK, Field Agent

Life insurance is often referred to as “the marvel of paper and ink.”  First coined years ago, probably by a salesman to explain his product to a potential customer, it remains a good way to explain what happens when a member signs an application for permanent life insurance.  Let me explain.

Say you have determined, along with your K of C agent, that you need $100,000 worth of life insurance.  On the evening of your appointment, you and the agent complete the application, answer some personal questions, and provide some medical history that will help our underwriters determine your health.  (Don’t forget: You need good health to purchase life insurance; it takes more than just the ability to pay premiums.)

The application is submitted, along with your initial premium.  In a few weeks’ time, your agent then delivers to you a contract: the “marvel of paper and ink.”

What is so marvelous?  Well, the Order has agreed to pay your beneficiary $100,000 when you die.  That could be today or 10 years from today.  Regardless of how much premium the Order collects, it is agreed that your beneficiary will receive $100,000—as long as you live up to your end of the contract and pay your premiums.  That’s guaranteed.

No other financial instrument can do what a whole life contract can do.  Truly, it is a marvel but also a necessity.  Please give me a call if you like to learn more about the power of permanent insurance.v
