Rosecroft Outing Is A Winner
With ideal weather
conditions, a fast track, good food and fellowship, veterans and newcomers
to the sport of horse racing were treated to an evening of fun and
excitement at this year’s Knight at the Races.
However, picking the winners was a lot tougher this year because we
were without our divinely inspired handicapper and Chaplain – Father
Julius Cilinski. Due to (excuse the pun) nagging ailments, Father Cilinski was
unable to attend one of his favorite events.
This year’s
outing, which was held on Saturday, June 1st, included several
special moments:
-
The
Council got to pose in the Winner’s Circle with the 1st
place horse from the 3rd race.
-
Brother
Bob Abba and Karen LaRoche got to ride in the pace car during the 6th
race.
-
The
highlight of the evening was seeing Doris Abba looking great and
enjoying herself with husband Bob, their daughter, son-in-law, and
grandson. After a rough
stretch with illness, we are happy to see that Doris is on the
rebound.
A total of 42
people attended the event, including officers from the Virginia State
Council and John Everett, a friend of Kevin Craddock, who hiked all the
way from Springer Mountain, GA for the event.
Actually, John is on a “through hike” to Mt. Katahdin, ME on
the 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail. If
you are looking to lose a little weight, you may want to consider long
distance hiking. John has
lost 40 pounds so far on his journey.
As usual, Brother
Kevin Craddock did a great job organizing this event.
However, the one recurring complaint that was heard all evening
long is that Kevin needs to take handicapping lessons from Father Cilinski.
Hurry up and get well, Father, we need your sage counsel – on and
off the racetrack.
